Gizmo has itchy skin - Should we change Pet Food?

JULIE:..........We currently purchase our NutriSource from you for our french bulldog, Gizmo! I was reading that sometimes it is a good idea to rotate between 2-3 different foods. Gizmo has dry skin and we currently give him fish oil to help with that. Can you give me the names of some top quality foods you have that you would recommend we try?? I also wondered if you had any samples of them we could try to make sure Gizmo will eat it!

PKS...........We understand that there are some circles that promote rotation of dog foods. We have heard many different schools of thought on why they recommend this practice.

We are not exactly on board with this thought. With that said, in some cases I think that it makes perfect sense to modify your dogs diet. We take the position that we should not attempt to fix something that is not troublesome.

With the fact that Gizmo is experiencing dry skin, it may be beneficial to explore other opportunities. While the fish oil will help with this problem, there may be a slight possibility that there is an underlying cause. It could be many things including, food allergy, frequent bathing, shampoo allergy, breed specific problems, etc. I would encourage you to think through all of the possibilities. We can help you address many of them.

Food allergy is one possibility that is extremely easy to explore with proper selection of pet food. However, this is only the case if the dog food is the only component of Gizmo’s diet. Other possible components such as treats, table scraps, the neighbor’s dog food that is left on their back porch, need to be explored.

The Nutri-Source that you are feeding is a great dog food and we have numerous customers that have had great success with it. We have two different products that are made by the same company as Nutri-Source …. PureVita and Natural Planet Organics. Either of those would be a great choice and we have samples of both. Pro Plan all life stages would be a good choice as well.

Here are links to two of the products that I mentioned above.

Please feel free to come out and explore any other questions that you may have.
